Liquid Chillers and Water Circuit Design

A water-chilling unit describes the liquid being cooled; it does not necessarily identify a water-cooled condenser. Both air-cooled and water-cooled chillers can serve a chilled-water loop.

Technical assessment

Review the separate roles of the chiller, pump, tank, strainer and controls. Check capacity, required flow, pressure drop and minimum system volume against the model’s documentation.

Information needed for selection

Provide the application, operating hours, cooling load, entering and leaving liquid temperatures, fluid type and concentration, flow, site location and environmental conditions. A nominal capacity alone does not replace a detailed equipment selection.
